Kurdish Talent opened its auditions to singers from every part of the region and the diaspora. Hundreds applied; a few dozen reached the studio.
What makes the show different is the repertoire: contestants are encouraged to perform Kurdish songs — folk, classical and new compositions — with a live band rather than backing tracks.
Mentors, not judges
Experienced musicians coach the contestants between rounds, and the programme shows those rehearsals as much as the final performances. Viewers see how a voice changes over a season.
